Theme of the Group - Vikku
Shri T. R. Harihara Sharma, the great father of Shri. T. H. Vinayakram brought the concept of “Saptha Laya Sorkattu” which is otherwise called the “Seven Syllables” used in the south Indian Carnatic Percussion system. In the field of Carnatic Music, there are totally seven swaras, in other words, seven musical notes by which many ragas or melodies were created. The same principle was being founded by vikku’s father for the rhythm, by establishing seven basic syllables.
Shri T. H. Vinayakram, universally called as Vikku, is experienced in the fields of South Indian Classical Carnatic music, Jugalbandhis and the world fusion music. He had a thought of establishing the richness of South Indian Classical Carnatic percussions at the universal level. The dream was fulfilled thro’ the establishment of his own group called “SAPTHAAKSHARA” which has the members who are talented in their respective fields of South Indian percussion. The group performs the seven different percussions such as Mridangam, Ghatam, Kanjeera, Moharsing, Konnakkol (Vocal Percussion), drum percussions and Gethu (an ancient South Indian Percussion) accompanied by the vocal support.
